Darwin School of Ballet

by Julia Quinn
(Darwin, NT, Australia)

The Darwin School of Ballet was founded by Madame Lily Vita in 1975.

The school is now run by one of her students, Lisa Heath, who maintains the philosophy behind the formation of the studio: strong focus on technique, discipline, moderate class sizes and encouragement of students to develop to their full potential.

Both assistant teachers, Julia Quinn and Jola Bakker trained under Madame Vita, as did Joanna Noonan (resident guest choreographer).

The Darwin School of Ballet offers Cecchetti classical ballet and dance classes for children 5 years of age through to adults. Our training in ballet involves annual exams with an interstate examiner and a holiday dance program featuring classes and styles with both local and national dance artists.

Some of our past students are currently studying at recognised and respected dance institutions such as the Victorian College of the Arts, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the Queensland Dance School of Excellence.

Our students get the opportunity to work with other artists and companies such as Tracks, Gary Lang, Joanna Noonan, and Julia Gray’s Sunameke Pacific Island Dance.
