Elaina is establishing a Flamenco dance school in Darwin, and although a gypsy by nature and continually travelling and teaching, she plans on periodically returning and expanding on technique/ syllabus/styling with upgrade classes, and with weekend workshops encompassing a full choreography.
"With enough students, I can choreograph a complete and professional looking show in minimal time.Shows lead to more students , so they are important, and of course this is what we enjoy. Students will continue on with weekly practice even when I am not in town.
My Flamenco school in Cairns, although only two years old, has a performing group with two complete 15 minute shows. They get together and practice three times a week and I am really proud of their spirit. They are doing a terrific job, but you know when something is your passion, and you have focus, this give you your drive.
My background in dance consisted of studying ballet, modern ballet, jazz, folk, tap, Afro Cuban, African, Indian the full monty in fact, pretty much full time after school and weekend from age nine, complete with, exams, competitions, concerts, Xmas pantomimes etc.I started full time professional dancing at 18, travelling with theatre groups in musicals, and later danced in theatres, tableaus, nightclubs and cabarets in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Spain and the U.S.A.
My teaching has ranged from teaching tap to the kids at the YMCA in Chinatown San Francisco, to teaching the performing branch of the Singapore army Flamenco, to dancing in a command performance in Pakistan.
Now that's a wide range.
One of my highlights was touring with the Jose Greco Dance Company with the legendary Faruko as the Flamenco star.We became friends, and I later lived with him and his family several months. This was so inspiring. Faruquito and family are recognized as the number 1 Flamenco family.
Elaina also teaches Cuban Salsa and Argentine Tango.
All dance styles I have studied at the source. Flamenco living in Spain five years, Salsa living in Miami with trips to Havana, Argentine Tango from Tango Masters living in Miami and with regular trips to Buenos Aires. I have danced and studied dance and taught all over the world. It's the best.
I emphasize quality, grace, depth/feeling, styling, and authenticity.
Anyone can learn steps, but a true dancers spirit shines through.
That's the difference.
