Daly River Region
The Daly River region is a few hours drive from Darwin and well known for barramundi fishing, shady mango trees and the Merrepen Arts Festival.
The Nauiyu Aboriginal Community at the Daly River crossing has a population of around 500 people and has always been an important meeting and ceremonial location for the area. The crossing marks the extent of tidal influences on the river, with the road continuing on to Wadeye (Port Keats) The Daly River provides some of the best barramundi fishing in Australia and attracts large numbers of amateur anglers all hoping to land spectacular metre long barra. Although there is no accommodation available in the Nauiyu Community, there are tourist parks offering a full range of accommodation styles in the region.
