my experience with a cyclone

by falicity
(darwin)

omg how can i explain the experience i went through.. well it all started on Christmas eve and i was sitting in my room on my lap top, i was talking to some friends on msn.. anyways as i was telling them about my day the power suddenly went out, i called down to my mum and asked what was wrong and why the power went out. she told me to come down stairs to have a look at something. once i got down stairs her and my dad were looking outside, which i though was a bit strange because they all had shocked faces. i went to see what all the fuss was about and as i looked through the window i saw houses being tared apart in the distance and a huge whirling cyclone coming towards our house, there were bits of rubbish and branches flying everywhere, someones chair had hit our car and caused all the windows to break. immediately i started to panic, my dad was telling us to hurry and get as many blankets and mattresses as possible and go down into the basement. i did as he said and waited 4 them to join me. we all huddled in the basement and closed the door after us, the sound was unbearable u could hear our house being tared apart and ripped to shreds. we were so frightened that we would be its next victims we stayed as close together as possible.. about 4 hrs had gone past and the sounds was starting to quieten down and disappear, we were still too scared to leave the basement so we stayed 4 another 1 and a half hrs then we decided to go and see how much damage was caused. as we opened the basement door all we could see for miles was smashed up houses and rubbish everywhere, there was nothing left of our house but rubble.

Authenticity of Posts
by: Jim (editor)

Thanks for all the input, I would just like to mention again that there is no way anyone could verify the accuracy of posts in this discussion because most are about peoples personal experiences.

Cyclone Tracey is often part of school exercises and it is interesting to see how young people imagine life in the '70s. It seems it is hard to understand how life existed before Facebook and iphone6!

So while we don't check these stories, it is pretty easy to pick who was really in Darwin at the time.

Probably A Troll
by: Anonymous

As much as I think this person is probably lying, "falacity" doesn't actually say this was Cyclone Tracy. Does say she lives in Darwin but that may not be the location in her story. Like I said, though, probably lying or trolling. If so, take a hike!

idiots on internet forums
by: Shaun

I think that person is just a stupid troll. The "experiences" posted on here should be vetted before they are printed, although I believe most are genuine.

of course we all know there was no MSN or laptops in 1974, and that moron knew it also, so "falicity" or whoever you are, take a hike, wanker!

You stupid idiot!!!
A: there were no laptops in 1974 which means
B: there was no msn
And C: you wouldn't have been able to see anything out your window as it was night. There were no basements and if your windows blew out then the whole house would have disappeared how could you make up such a load of crap about a disaster like that. I honestly hope you go through something like this to see the difference between your "memory" and the real thing

Loser!!

shame.

To be an idiot is just the case. to be toughtless beast it is a shame. Hollywood-made twister simply doesnt match to the fury of a mature tropical cyclone which Tracy represents.

by: Shane, Melbourne Vic

How could anybody make up a story that is false about a national disaster, you should be ashamed of yourself, how could you see house in the distance getting demolished by Tracy when it was pitch black in darkness you clown, i dont know how old you are, but maybe you need to grow up a little, and if you think that this is a scathing attack on you integrity, your damd right, it is, proud to be an Aussie. i Love Darwin.

Is This True?
by: Anonymous

Its hard to belive that in 1974 you had a laptop and MSN. They weren't even around. Make sure you have your information checked first and to tell the truth. Everyone can see that you have just made this up. Sorry.

How could you lie about something like that. people lost their lives in that cyclone and you just make up a story to make yourself look so cool. Those people had mothers, brothers, workmates, friends, partners, and you taunt the memories of others by making up this crap. what a low person you are.
