Darwin in the 60's
by: Minnie

My family of 5 girls, Mum & Dad, moved to Darwin from Hervey Bay, Qld in 1964 to the RAAF base where Dad was an LAC.
We at first lived in an Igloo house while our house was built in Curringa st on the base. We went to Nightcliff primary school, then were among the first to attend Ludmilla primary.
Our holidays mostly were spent in Arnhem Land at what is now known as Cahills crossing. No sign of crocs back then. The tide came in salty & went out fresh water.
The local tribe camped opposite to us. Weekends were always adventures travelling down the 'track' in an FB Holden, no seatbelts or air cons then, collecting bottles to cash in for Dads beer...Sometimes we went to East point or one of the Islands (Vernon, Mica beach)I could write a book, but the best days ever!!
