Demand for accommodation in the Top End, and especially Darwin, is very seasonal and the industry struggles to provide for everyone in the dry season months from May to September, and struggles to find clients in the wet season from November to March.

If you plan on staying in Darwin during the dry season, it is advisable to book as soon as you know your travel dates because it is usually a very busy time.

Most of the tourist accommodation in Darwin is located in, or very close to the CBD. There is very little in the northern suburbs, except for a cluster at the airport.

Long term accommodation in either houses, flats or apartments has been amongst the most expensive in Australia, comparing the same quality of dwelling in other capital cities, however it has reduced considerably since the completion of the INPEX gas development.
